Kendall County Correctional Facility Completes Audit
Kendall County, IL (May 12, 2021, 4:30 PM)
The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce it has successfully passed a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) audit that was conducted on March 8th and 9th, 2021.
The National Standards to Prevent, Detect, and Respond to Prison Rape (PREA Standards) require all covered confinement facilities to be audited at least once during every three-year audit cycle. PREA auditors are trained to thoroughly review and analyze an agency’s practices to ensure compliance with PREA Standards that were put in place to eliminate sex abuse in a confinement setting. The audit consists of a review of policies and procedures, a tour of the facility, interviews of staff, deputies, inmates, and command personnel, and a review of reports and records.
The Kendall County Correctional Facility had 42 findings of meeting the standards, and 3 findings of exceeding the standards. The auditor’s report noted, “The agency and facility’s leadership are fully committed to eliminating sexual abuse/sexual harassment.”
Sheriff Dwight Baird stated. “It is the mission of the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office to operate in adherence with the strictest standards for safety and security of both staff and inmates. I’m incredibly proud of the men and women who work to ensure that this standard is achieved, and I would like to thank the correctional staff for their hard work and dedication to this important mission.”
