Michigan Man Charged Following Report of Shots Being Fired at Saw Wee Kee Park
Kendall County, IL (March 25, 2024, 4:45 PM)
19-year-old Gangyi Cao, of Birmingham, Michigan, is charged with multiple offenses following an investigation by members of the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.
On March 24th, 2024, deputies received a report of two individuals with firearms at Saw Wee Kee Park shooting at a target. Deputies arrived on the scene and located several shell casings and fired shotgun shells along one of the trails in the area. A short time later the individuals were located along with a semi-automatic rifle and a shotgun. It appears that at least one of the individuals was shooting straight down at a piece of clothing on the ground. Both individuals were transported to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.
The facts and circumstances surrounding this investigation were reviewed with the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office and Gangyi was charged as follows: two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon (each is a Class 3 felony) and two counts of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (each is a Class 4 felony). The second individual has not been charged at this time and has been released pending further investigation.
Gangyi is currently in custody at the Kendall County Jail and will appear before a judge for a pre-trial conditions hearing.
