Kendall County Courts

JPilmer

Welcome to the website of the Kendall County Judiciary.  This website is intended to provide information regarding our local court system and to provide some direction as to the various rights and obligations of persons involved in court as either a party, attorney, witness, or as a potential juror.

Kendall County and Dekalb County constitute the 23rd Judicial Circuit with the State of Illinois.  All courts within Kendall County are located at the Kendall County Courthouse in Yorkville.  Other offices within the courthouse include the Kendall County Circuit Clerk, State’s Attorney, Public Defender, and the office of Court Services (probation).  The Kendall County Judiciary currently consists of six judges.  Each judge is assigned to hear a specific docket of cases.  Those case types include various types of criminal cases and civil litigation, family and domestic matters, juvenile cases, and domestic violence cases (stalking, civil no contact, and orders of protection).

As a result of the COVID pandemic, certain court proceedings were required to be conducted remotely.  As an outgrowth of that experience, Kendall County adopted certain policies intended to enhance the ability of persons to attend court virtually.   Presently, we utilize a hybrid model, meaning certain litigants and attorneys are automatically allowed to appear remotely, usually for routine and uncontested matters.  However, each judge is afforded discretion to balance the benefits and detriments of appearing remotely within the framework of constitutionally guaranteed rights, so it is important for you to ascertain in advance whether you will be permitted to do so.

The judges in Kendall County believe that the rights guaranteed to our citizenry are only as good as the ability to exercise and enforce them.  In order to promote that ideal, we are committed to strengthening public trust in our judicial institution.  We intend to do so by continually working to maintain an accessible, fair, and impartial court system, by insisting that disputes are resolved timely and efficiently, and by treating everyone we encounter with the same measure of  courtesy, dignity, empathy, and respect.
