Kendall County IL- April 9, 2021 – Construction on the Eldamain Road Bridge is now underway in unincorporated Yorkville/Plano. The project is funded through prudent budgeting of the Kendall County Board. Funding sources include the Kendall County Transportation Sales Tax, Rebuild Illinois, and State Representative Keith Wheeler. The bridge is being constructed in a joint venture by Plote Construction & Dunnet Bay Construction Company at just under $35 million. HR Green is providing construction management for the county.
Kendall County Board Chairman Scott Gryder said, “Once constructed, the Eldamain Road Bridge will be the 8th crossing of the Fox River in Kendall County and at 1557’, the bridge will be by far the longest bridge in our county”. Gryder continued, “The last new bridge built over the Fox river, in Kendall County, was the Orchard Road Bridge. The Eldamain Road Bridge will be the second new location for a bridge constructed in the past 100 years. The new crossing will bring much needed relief from congestion for our residents.” Construction is expected to be completed in 2023.
During construction Chairman Gryder and the entire County Board ask for your patience in the staging and the many detours that will be required to complete this project. Currently, Highpoint Road between Budd Road and Fox Road is closed and is expected to be for much of the year. Fox Road will remain open the remainder of 2021 but is expected to close for a maximum of 90 days in 2022.
In May of 1991, Kendall County approved an engineering agreement with Collins and Rice to establish a centerline for Eldamain Road from US Route 34 to Fox Road. The agreement was the 1st step towards the construction of the bridge. Almost 30 years later, the Kendall County Board celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony for the bridge. When finalized Eldamain Road will become a strategic route, moving traffic in a north/south direction across the county.
