House Bill 612 has been signed by the governor. This bill changes the qualifications for the Disabled Veterans Homestead Exemption and are retroactive to the 2023 payable 2024 tax bill. The previous law required the total assessment to be $250,000 or less in order for a veteran with a rating of 70% or greater to be tax exempt. The new law now allows for the first $250,000 to be exempt from taxes. Any amount above $250,000 is subject to taxation. Additionally, a veteran no longer has to have been honorably discharged from the service. Therefore, any veteran with a service-connected disability rating of 30% or higher is eligible to apply.
The bill also exempts WWII veterans from property taxation regardless of disability status.
